Michael Tayler Finishes 20

Michael Tayler of Ottawa has finished 20th in Men’s K1 Canoe Slalom at his first Olympic Games. Tayler will not advance to the semi-final of the top 15 ranked competitors.

”It’s tough,” said Tayler. “It did not go exactly as I had planned but at the end of the day it was a pretty good experience.”

Tayler’s result came from his best time of 97.64 seconds on his second run of the heats. On his first run, Tayler missed a gate which resulted in a 50 second penalty and a run time of 155.89 seconds.

“My training was going really well and when it does, everything slows down on the race course but it not happen during the race. I have to learn from this experience.”

His sights are now set on the final two World Cups of the year and building his potential for 2016. An emotional Tayler thanked his mom and dad as well as his sister Kathleen for supporting him all these years. He says his friends and his teammates have made this journey great.
